Still Frame Analysis

This is a still frame from our horror movie opening. I have chosen this still as i believe it allows you too understand lots sbout the character with his dress and the situations its self.

Mise-En-Scene
- The costume he is wearing is formal wear , even though he is a doing a daily household chore is cutting carrots. Thuis gives a sense of mystery to the charcter as it keeps you second guessing what is his ocupation ? why is he dressed like that ? This leads to the use of the knife , as you can tell the knife used isnt you typical household knife that you would use to cut carrots , it is a butcher knife , one prodominantly used to cut meat. We did this as we wanted to follow some form of horror conventions. In films with a murderer the killers knife is almost his identity , they always have knife or weapon with a speacial feature that strikes fear into the audience like Freddie Cougars claws , again also with him using such a big knife it build the suspicion aswell.
The features of the character are normal , there is no make - up used , we could of gave him distinct features but we decided against this as we want the character to look normal , we wanted the audience to be able to relate him to someone they know or someone in their neighbourhood.
This still also has the bin bag in it , this could just be rubbish but from Mr. Vicinis face it can lead the audience to believe that there is something else in the bag , again going with the theme of the scene and keeping the audience guessing.

Camera Shots

- In this camera shot you can clearly see that the cmaera is positioned behind the bin bag. We did this as we wanted the audience to notice the binbag. We thought if the bin bag was just something in the corner then the audience would not take any notice , eventhough the postioning of the bag is an element of mise en scene the camera shot used does add a different dimension to this scene.
Eventhough it allows you to notcie the bag , you dio not see it in detail , you only see the knot holding it shot. With the not being shown it also makes the audience wonder why it is shut ? what is in it ? this is something we aspired to create ( mystery ).
It also takes Mr. Vicini out of focus to prevent the audience working to much out , the focus was not to important as we did not want to completely to get  rid of Vicini as the film is evolved around his again going against conventions.
The shot uswed was a close up / mid shot , the bag is close in detail shpowing the not but preventing to much to be shown and the mid shot of vicini allows you tpo see must of his body seeing his actions and his costume showing his features.
