Vicini is Latin for neighbour , this is because the movie itself is about a neighbourhood killer who moves in and commits a series of muders and it shows in detail the killer himself , this is a twist we have added to the conventions of horror. Most horror movies focus of the conviction of the killer when this focuses more on the killer and his successs of evading police and the way he goes by his bussiness doing so.
The inspiration for our movie came from several aspects. Firstly the discussion inside the group and we all decided a psycho killer is something we all enjoyed and that all of us had a good background on how a psycological should be made. We watched the openening scenes from The Stepfather this works on the same idea we have chosen but it is about a man who moves in with a woman and becomes the stepfather of a family. In the movie he commits a series of murders within the family and then moves house to find his new victim. We also watched opening credits from the american series Dexter , Dexter is about a killer and how he kills. The opening credits to one of the episodes is him making breakfast and how he does in such a brutal way it can easily be seen that he is linked to murder. This links in with our movie as we decided that the opening credits should be the killer picking which house and neighbourhood to move into , this allowed us to show him crossing out many houses and in the manner that he crosses them is very brutal and can present fear. Also we have chosen for him to cross them out in red pen , although this is used for many negative things , we see red as blood when linked to horror movies and we decided this would show a sense of a killer and would make the audience unsettled.
As we are only doing the opening two minutes of the movie we had to think about what was vital to include and what we as amatuers could actualy do. Our first intentions was to have a car driving to the house he is moving to , but we realised this would take up lots of our time and none of us could actually drive and that we would not be able to close down roads so there would be lots of interference with our filming. This is why we decided that the best option for us would be to use the newspaper technique as this would only take 30 seconds ( estimated time ) this gives us time to show other key points.
In the rest of the scene we decided to have a man taking out the ' trash ' , inside the trash would be a dead body and a young boy would see him doing so , this puts the man in a position where he must kill a young boy. We called the young boy Malcolm as this seems a very innocent boy , the costume he wears in very much innocent with shorts a t shirt and a lolly pop . Malcolm would be riding a young bike that squeaks , the conventions of a squeaky bike in the background is very scary as it creates suspense , however the way we are using it is not scary atall . We have an actor for the young boy it will be a family member so consent will be easy to acquire and we can adapt clothes and costume easily if needed.
The lighting we have chosen is high key , although this breaks traditional horror conventions we decided this would almost trick the audience. The audience will not think of the situation to be dangerous if it is in pure daylight , this allows us to create suspense and demonstrate the killers addiction to murder furter. The location will be a home that is also a family members and it is on a veru quiet road , linking in with the idea of him moving into a small neighbourhood in which he changes the mood drasticly. We designed a small poster that shows the neighbourhood from the young boy Malcolms eyes , this allow the audience to relate to the fear that the new neighbour creates to people.
The age certificate we chose for the movie was 12 , this was because it has an elemnent of comedy but has scenes of violence. We havent chosen 15 because there is murder in our movie but you dont see any of the muder itself , you just see the after effect of it when the character is dead. This allows us to focus on the killer and more and how he hides the bodies making it more of a psycological horror instead of a slasher. We thought with it being a 12 it would allow us to get more selling points as more people are able to watch it. Another thing that made us chose 12 was seeing the success of woman in black and how it did not have any sexual content or gore but it still causes fear and was seen as a horror movie , this is the sort of movie we was going for , something suttle yet very scary.
So yeah that it our movie :)
