Snatch Study

Okay , so last lesson me and a partner was given a assignment to study how the sound and the Mise En Scene used in this scene of snatch affect the situation and set a mood.

You could say the first things you notice is the body language of  'Brad Pitt' ( Mikey ) , seems to be almost confident and brave . He comes across as being very proud of his fighting skills even though he is being thrown around like a rag doll by George . The sound used in the fight is very violent with the crowd behind him shouting abuse at George as they are fighting in Mikeys home the Traveller site. You can hear the contact of the punches which is and non-diegetic sound , this can sometimes be out of time and can make a fight scene very poor , but in this fight is it used very well and gives great effect as it demonstrates the power that George has over Mikey , which makes us question why on earth is Mikey so confident when fighting the huge man ?

The Mise En Scene used shows a very stereoypical pickey fighting sight , where various fights would be held including dogs. The crowd used as i said before give it a great atmosphere. George is wearing very much a normal outfit due to the suprise of the fight. Mikey on the other hand half way through the fight takes his shirt off and demonstrates his body tone , the body tone and muscle definition would of been something Brad Pitt would of had to work on to show that maybe there is a reason behind is braveness. A number of tatoos are on Mileys body which are part of Mikeys character and not off Brad Pit , this again show the very much stereo typical ' i dont care attitude ' .

As you know all of our precomsemptions of Mikey are very much wrong . We think he is going to lose the fight due to the size difference but as he reveals his ' muscles ' he knocks out George is when hook to the jaw, as the hook is performed a sound is used that dubs out everything else and makes you concente on the much and almost makes you feel the power of the punch as a viewer. This is where the music comes in. As george hits the floor we see a birds eye view of his bloody face that make sus think he is dead at first due to pale face and bloody face which is a great use of make up. The music used is actually not as sad as you would think but it gives a great impact with the music hitting you with its catchy tune , and the lyrics very much relate to the situation as they say 'texture like sun , lays me down , with my man she runs ' . This could be trying to say that the texture of his face us like sun , blinding , and George has been laid down has he has been taken away from Tommy as his prize fighter.

This is where the voiceover of Turkish comes in and explains the whole situation with how George has only been knocked out and how Tommy has lost the prize fighter. Tommy the tit.

Now as you can see alot of work is done on sound as i am only a media student with a basic understanding and i have anlysed this much information in a 2 minute clip , alot of work is done behind the scenes that we maybe dont appreciate as much as we should .
